This essay mentions advantages and disadvantages of not fighting global warming, and just to live with it; I think that we should cope with the consequences of all these years we didn't care, and spend some time in the research for renewable energy which wouldn't harm the environment and would last for indefinite amounts of time.
I would like to start off by mentioning the advantages or so called 'pros' of living without minding global warming as much as we do now; Firstly, We would save up to the 4 percent of global economy by 2030, which could be invested on renewable energy research and all of its expenses, which might not be the best choice for keeping planet Earth's ecosystems and such, but would be a huge step forward onto a new, easier life for us and all the generations to come.
Secondly; Putting mankind through 'heavy environmental care', would mean we'd have to reduce heat-trapping gasses a 40 to 70 percent by 2050 (Speaking from 2010's numbers), and this would be just to keep global warming under 2ºC!, according to Jeff Myhre past January, 2014. This would be devastating for any industrial research facility and would reduce their production massively and setting mankind back a step from evolution, which is already not happening due to people carelessly littering.
Now, I'm going to refer to the 'pros' of doing exactly the opposite; To actually care intensively or even excessively about the environment. To begin with, I'll name the only good 'pro' available right now, but by far, the one which does best to today's economy. If we went for this way we would create jobs that manufacture energy-saving products, or even products which create energy through resources such as wind or sunlight. which would not only help to fight against the massive problem we've got ahead, but would create enormous amounts of jobs throughout the world, so stated the ACEEE (American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy) in 1998.
Moreover, there are some minor advantages regarding this situation, which wouldn't do massive changes in the world by themselves, but would do considerate changes all together. Such as a healthier lifestyle, to conserve wild and plant-life which form part of a high percentage of the renewable resources we use on our everyday life.
To end this essay, I'm going to state that; No matter how many 'pros' there are; This is an on-going issue, which could be assimilated to a ticking bomb waiting to explode. And when that time runs out, we'll probably face the end of the world. So, to conclude, I think that taking a risky step forward would be better than to take position and wait for the best, as the last two paragraphs describe. And to be completely honest; we do not have neither the time nor the reliability of today's technology to handle such an important task.
